Software Engineering Intern

What you’ll actually work on

We’ll choose a project together based on what you want to build and what you want to get better at. We think people do their best work when they’re interested in the problem.

You’ll take that project from an idea through to working software. That means figuring out how things should work, writing the code, testing it and getting it into production. You’ll work in the existing product, bring your own ideas and learn what it takes to finish something that customers can use.

How we work

• Direct collaboration. You’ll build alongside the CTO, who writes code daily. You’ll work through problems together and get direct feedback on what you build.
• Take initiative. We expect you to try things, investigate problems and come with ideas. Ask questions when you get stuck, and take responsibility for moving your work forward.
• Build, test, ship. We work in small steps, put improvements into production and see how they perform.
• The stack. PHP (Laravel), TypeScript and PostgreSQL. You need some programming experience; you can learn the parts of our stack your project needs.
• Hard work. This is going to be a demanding internship. You’ll get stuck, have things break and need to keep going. You’ll build a lot of cool shit with us, and you’ll have to put the work in.

You might be a great fit if

• You’re very enthusiastic about building software and want to get good at it.
• You have some programming experience and something you can show us. A school project, a website or a small app is enough to start a conversation.
• You start things yourself, follow through and want to understand how they work.
• You take feedback seriously and keep working when a problem gets difficult.
• You’re looking for a place to push yourself. MBO, HBO, WO or self-taught: your education doesn’t decide whether you belong here.

This probably isn’t for you if

• You’re looking for an easy placement where you can mostly watch.
• You need every step written out before you’ll try something.
• You don’t want responsibility for finishing what you start.

Practical details

4–6 months, starting date flexible, based at our Amsterdam office with hybrid working. €500–750 per month.

Meewerk- and afstudeerstages are welcome. If your school has requirements for the assignment, we’ll work those into the project we choose together.
